According to the brand, it’s supposed to be a “long-wearing, buildable” highlighter that gives a “natural-looking” glow. It had semi-sheer to mostly opaque coverage–so buildable, as billed–that was easy to apply and build-up without it becoming too intense with respect to the finish. The texture was fairly smooth, soft, and blendable on the skin, but there was a slight dryness present (something common to this type of formula, from my experience) that doesn’t impact the way it looks or wears from what I can tell. It didn’t emphasize pores, though it is a more obvious highlighter, so if you prefer something subtle, I would recommend using a feathery brush and a lighter hand. On me, it wore well for eight hours.

According to the brand, it’s supposed to be a “long-wearing, buildable” highlighter that gives a “natural-looking” glow. It had semi-sheer, buildable coverage (to mostly opaque) with a texture that was slightly dry to the touch, but it still had a very smooth, blendable consistency that sat well on the skin. I really expected this to emphasize the natural texture of the skin, but once blended, it produced an illuminating sheen that was moderate rather than metallic. I think this would work really well paired with a slew of blushes to brighten and add sheen. I noticed signs of the powder fading on my skin after eight hours of wearing it.

According to the brand, it’s supposed to be a “long-wearing, buildable” highlighter that gives a “natural-looking” glow. It had semi-sheer to mostly opaque color coverage (once built up). The texture was just like the others in the line: smooth, soft, blendable, but there was that slight dryness to it if you put your finger against the surface–it just didn’t seem to translate in a negative way on the skin. It was easy to diffuse the color along the cheek bones, and the more shimmery nature didn’t emphasize my pores. Of all four shades, this one had the most metallic sheen applied, so if pore emphasis is a big concern, you might want to test-drive this prior to purchasing. The color was a bit of a chameleon on me; there is a rosier undertone that became more present the more it was blended out, which made it look like bronze/copper against my skin tone. I will be curious to hear how it works on other skin tones and undertones.

FORMULA OVERVIEW | Laura Mercier Lip Parfait Creamy Colourbalm ($25.00 for 0.12 oz.) is supposed to have the “comfort of a lip balm, the coverage of a lipstick, and the shine of a gloss.” The formula is really quite pigmented, creamy, and hydrating; their downfall is longevity was typically less than similar-hued shades with a less emollient consistency (not entirely unexpected). There was a slight, sweet scent to them but no discernible taste. It’s a really comfortable formula to wear, and if you don’t mind reapplying or transfer, well worth a look!

It had very nearly full color coverage, while the lipstick had a creamy, balm-like feel that glided on effortlessly (almost “melting” against the warmth of the lips) that left a glossier finish than other shades. It was a bit more emollient as a result, so it can slide around more, though I did not personally experience feathering. This shade lasted for four hours on me, and it was moisturizing over time. It had good color payoff, though not fully opaque, with a creamy consistency that was comfortable to wear and apply. I noticed that the texture seemed to emphasize lip lines a little bit–it read “clingy” compared to other shades (but it didn’t feel clingy). The Matte Radiance Baked Powder formula is supposed to have “natural color with soft matte radiance” with “sheer, buildable coverage” that lasts “8 hours.” Now, this isn’t as luminous as Highlight (010), and I can see more of that “matte radiance” concept with the more bronzer-like shades. The texture was very smooth and finely-milled, thin but not dusty, and blended out nicely on the skin without skipping or turning patchy. It had semi-sheer, buildable coverage (closer to opaque after three layers on me). The bronzer lasted well for eight hours on me–exactly as marketed!–before fading. There are four bronzer-liker shades in the range, and the first three are all fairly similar, while the last one is considerably darker.

The Matte Radiance Baked Powder formula is supposed to have “natural color with soft matte radiance” with “sheer, buildable coverage” that lasts “8 hours.” The texture was soft, smooth, and very lightly dusty, but it still applied well to the skin without looking powdery or dry (I have normal-to-dry skin). It was easy to blend and diffuse the edges of the bronzer on the skin to get a soft, natural warmth. The color payoff was semi-sheer, but buildable, and should work for those who like barely-there bronzer and those who want more noticeable warmth on the skin. The bronzer stayed on well for just over eight hours before I noticed slight signs of fading.

There are four bronzer-liker shades in the range, and the first three are all fairly similar, while the last one is considerably darker.

The Matte Radiance Baked Powder formula is supposed to have “natural color with soft matte radiance” with “sheer, buildable coverage” that lasts “8 hours.” It is more satiny than Bronze (01) and Bronze (02), and it has a stronger red undertone, but it isn’t too much darker overall. The texture was soft, smooth, and blendable with a thinner consistency that kicked up very little excess powder in the pan. It had semi-sheer, buildable pigmentation that applied well to the skin and didn’t look dry or powdery, while it blended out well and became more natural-looking in finish after it was diffused. It lasted for eight hours on me before fading slightly.

There are four bronzer-liker shades in the range, and the first three are all fairly similar, while the last one is considerably darker.

The Matte Radiance Baked Powder formula is supposed to have “natural color with soft matte radiance” with “sheer, buildable coverage” that lasts “8 hours.” The powder had an incredibly smooth, soft, and finely-milled feel to it that blended out beautifully on the skin–it didn’t look dry or totally matte, but it had a nice, natural finish that looked like skin but better. It had semi-sheer to opaque coverage, and the blendable texture made it forgiving and easy to diffuse the coverage if over-applied. The color lasted eight and a half hours on me, which is a bit longer than described!

Laura Mercier Fall In Love Face Illuminator Palette

Laura Mercier Fall In Love Face Illuminator Palette ($58.00 for 0.44 oz.) includes four, miniature-sized versions of the permanent Face Illuminators. It’s pretty neat, as they have the same swirled, raised design, but everything is on a smaller scale. For someone who likes different highlighter shades (or highlighting blushes/bronzers) and would use two or three of them, it’s handy to have and would be good for traveling. Since the individual Illuminators are pricey, this is a good way to try them all for less than the cost of two full-sized shades. I think that the palette versions are fairly comparable to the permanent versions I have, though there are a few differences that I noticed. I don’t think that those differences really impact the overall look of the products applied, but they are there. This formula (and thus palette) is most suitable for someone who likes moderate highlights and some sparkle but not over-the-top metallic highlighters.

Formula Overview

According to the brand, Laura Mercier Face Illuminator ($44.00 for 0.30 oz.) supposed to be a “long-wearing, buildable” highlighter that gives a “natural-looking” glow. The formula is typically more buildable from medium to opaque coverage with a noticeable sheen that can get more frosted/metallic if applied heavily but doesn’t emphasize my pores. The texture is smooth and blendable, but there is a bit of dryness to it that seems common to this type of formula (think MAC Extra Dimension, NARS Dual-Intensity, Estee Lauder Gelee, etc.). On my normal-to-dry skin, the highlighter tends to last around eight hours.

Indiscretion is a light-medium, rosy copper with warm undertones and a soft, golden sheen. It had semi-sheer to mostly opaque pigmentation paired with a soft, lightly dry texture that was dry to the touch but did appear dry or dusty applied to the skin. The sheen became more refined as I buffed and worked the product on my skin, and while the full-size version seemed to be more likely to emphasize my pores a bit, this one didn’t. Addiction is a medium, yellow gold with warm undertones and a lightly sparkly, metallic finish. It had semi-sheer to mostly opaque coverage, and it was easy to blend on the skin. The texture wasn’t too soft or too firm, and it didn’t emphasize my pores when applied. The color lasted for almost eight hours on me. Devotion is a light pink with warmer undertones and cooler, violet and light pink shimmer. It had sheer to medium coverage, so it was buildable to some degree, but it was never intense. The powder was a little dry, but it didn’t look dry and blended well in practice, so I don’t think I would have even noticed it had I not felt the powder with my fingertips. Seduction is a medium-dark bronze with warm, golden undertones and a frosted sheen. It was buildable from semi-sheer to fully opaque color payoff, if desired, and it had a soft, lightly dusty consistency. It was very easy to blend and diffuse across the skin, and it wore well for eight hours. Of the four shades, this one had the strongest sheen (and most pigmentation to begin with), so while I didn’t have issues with it emphasizing my skin’s natural texture, if there was a shade prone to it, my guess would be this is the potential troublemaker. It’s that time of the year again: holiday gift guides aplenty! This year, I’ve broken out my gift guides into best of selections for blush, eyeshadow, highlighter, lipstick, lipgloss, palettes, and brushes. These guides feature permanent formulas so that they can be useful anytime during the holiday season or even into next year. Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick ($26.00 for 0.15 oz.) is supposed to have “bold, creamy color” with “extreme moisture, soft texture, and creamy wear.” The majority of the range is very pigmented–typically opaque with one pass–with a few shades being semi-opaque but usually buildable. The majority of the shades I’ve tested have been lightly hydrating to non-drying and fairly comfortable to wear for the long-haul. They wear longer than average, from four to eight hours, depending on the intensity and propensity of the shade to stain. The range is rather extensive with over 30 shades, so you may find our top 15 best Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipsticks list useful. Some of my favorite shades are: Pickled Ginger, Kale, Sour Cherry, and Spritzer.

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick

Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a pigmented, long-wearing, and hydrating formula that’s great if you like your color creamy and mostly opaque with a natural finish. You know you have a good formula on your hands when the average rating is an A across over thirty shades. Some of my favorite shades are: Defiant Coral, Discreet, Intense Nude, and Jealous.
