Laura Mercier Artist’s Palette for Eyes ($55.00 for 0.36 oz.) seems to have been re-released! I reviewed this here (November 2013), and it was one of the better-selling holiday palettes. Thought I would pass it along that it appears to be back at Sephora with the same packaging and shade range according to the image and accompanying description! (It looked familiar, but I was hoping it was totally new!)

It is exactly the same as last year’s Spellbound. I strongly would have rather the brand use the same name, because I didn’t know until I received the product and went, “This seems familiar.” It’s a lovely, moderately luminous highlighter otherwise. Laura Mercier describes it as “buildable long-wearing color” to highlight the face. The texture is soft, lightweight, very blendable, and very slightly emphasizes pores at times. I noticed if I used a fan brush, it was fine, but if I used a highlighting or blush brush, there was slight emphasis. The color lasted for eight hours on me.

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen my haul of Nordstrom Anniversary Sale beauty exclusives, which I photographed for the most part, but I still have a whole palette to swatch and then almost all of it still to test, so it’s going to be a bit. That leads me to: sneak peeks! The first I have ready to share with you is Laura Mercier Art of Colour Eye & Cheek Palette ($79.00), which includes eight eyeshadows and one blush, plus a mascara. I wish they had skipped the mascara and gone with a lower price.

Laura Mercier Art of Colour Eye & Cheek Palette ($79.00 for 0.83 oz.) includes eight eyeshadows, one blush, and a full-sized mascara and is a Nordstrom Anniversary Exclusive. It’s a disappointing palette; I think it looks and swatches better than it applies, and it’s a palette that should be used with an eyeshadow primer to minimize some of the issues that I experienced (like adhesion and longevity). Some of the eyeshadows ran a little drier, one was quite firm and difficult to use altogether, while the blush was horrendous. I would have also preferred to see them ditch the mascara and drop the price.
Bellini is a light-medium, pink-coral with gold shimmer. This was such an awful product; I have no idea why the brand’s blushes are dry and almost chunky in texture, when their eyeshadows are much smoother and more finely-milled. It had semi-sheer to semi-opaque color coverage that blends decently, but it looks a little dry on my skin. If I applied it with a damp brush or over still-drying liquid or cream foundation, it looked better. On, it lasted for six and a half hours before fading. Burnished Rose is a muted, medium-dark brown with a frosted finish. It had good color payoff with a soft, but almost dry, consistency. This shade didn’t layer well with other eyeshadows, as it didn’t seem to stick as well, but it was better when applied as the first layer (onto bare skin). It wore for seven and a half hours on me. Gunmetal is a medium-dark gray with cool undertones and a frosted finish. It had good pigmentation with a soft, lightly drier and dusty consistency that applied decently to bare lids. Morning Dew is a subtly warm-toned, pink beige with a matte finish. It had good pigmentation with a really silky, finely-milled texture that could get a little powdery in the pan as it is quite soft. African Violet is a warm, plummy purple with larger gold sparkle and shimmer. It’s part of the permanent range, and it’s been included in past palette releases from the brand. It’s an interesting shade, but it seems to have production issues; you’ll see a lot of love it or hate it kind of reviews. This was the smoothest and softest version I’ve come across, but the shimmer separates slightly when you start to blend it on the lid still. It lasted for seven hours on me before fading. Vanilla Kiss is a light beige with a satiny sheen. It had semi-sheer coverage (it just blends in with my skin tone) with a really firm texture, which I think is why the color payoff was subpar. I had really had to jab at it to get any powder to dislodge from the surface, so this was the big dud in the palette. It wore for seven hours before fading on me. Cappuccino is a muted, medium brown that leans slightly taupe-y but still pulls lighter and warmer than taupe, I think. It had a matte finish that was really smooth and finely-milled. Brown Sugar is a softened, medium-dark brown with warmer, yellow undertones and gold sparkle. It had semi-sheer coverage and the glitter didn’t bind with the powder, so it got everywhere but your eye. A lot of it was trapped in the brush or fell below my lid when I was blending it out, so there wasn’t a lot of fall out during wear as there just wasn’t much glitter to fall! It had mostly opaque pigmentation with some creaminess, but it was a challenge to blend due to it drying down very quickly–I didn’t feel like I had much time to work with it before the edges became unmovable. Laura Mercier Seashell Caviar Stick Eye Colour ($28.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a brightened, white gold with warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It had good pigmentation in a single stroke, and this shade was more like I remember the formula being: creamy without being too slippery, so it applied with even, smooth coverage on the lid and then wore all day long (nine hours)–but it was still blendable and easy to use. FORMULA SUMMARY | Laura Mercier Gilded Gold Caviar Stick Eye Colour ($28.00 for 0.05 oz.) is touted as “long-wearing, transfer- and crease-resistant” with “rich color payoff.” My experience has been that the more neutral shades (browns, taupes, beiges) tend to out-perform the colored ones.

Four shades are part of the permanent range, while two (Ganache and Aubergine) are limited edition. The Caviar Stick formula is supposed to “glide on smoothly” and “blend effortlessly” while also being “long-wearing, transfer- and crease-resistant” with “rich colour payoff.” Most of the shades I have tested from the formula are very good and true to the claims, though occasionally a shade is less pigmented or less blendable (but wear seems to be most consistent). The set contains $86.90 worth of product.
Sugar Frost is a light-medium champagne gold with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had semi-opaque pigmentation–about 85% coverage or so to my eye–with a creamy, slightly “wet” feel to it that glided across the lid without skipping or tugging. It was blendable for about twenty seconds, and after it mostly dried down, you could still diffuse the edge a bit with a stiffer brush, so the formula is forgiving and easy enough to work with if you’re comfortable with pencils. It had nice pigmentation, though not totally opaque; almost like lipstick that has a little translucency and enables the natural lip color to come through. The consistency was really creamy, so I initially worried about wear, but it still held on well for eight and a half hours before creasing slightly. It had good pigmentation and took about thirty seconds to dry down to a semi-matte finish, but it was never totally matte unless blended out quite a bit. African Violet is a medium-dark, rosy plum with larger gold sparkle. The texture isn’t as smooth as other shades, as you can feel the sparkle loosen from the base color. It had a tendency to sheer out on the skin, so I’d recommend using this with a lightly tacky base for best results. The color wore for seven hours with some fall out during wear. The formula is described as an “ultra smooth baked face powder” that gives a “natural colour with a radiant healthy glow” with “sheer, buildable coverage” and “eight hour” wear. There are four shades, and this is the lightest one, and the other three appear to be more bronze-like. The texture is incredibly soft, silky, and smooth; it’s thin but not dusty or dry, and it’s this thinner, silkier consistency that makes it easily blended on the skin. The finely-milled powder paired with fine shimmer keeps the finish from emphasizing pores (even when applied more heavily). It had buildable coverage, as described, and it actually lasted for closer to nine hours on me. I can definitely see why this has been raved about over the years–glad I picked it up, as I see it finding its way into my go-to drawer (a great permanent highlighter? always room for one more!).

Laura Mercier Lip Parfait Creamy Colourbalm ($25.00 for 0.12 oz.) is supposed to have the “comfort of a lip balm, the coverage of a lipstick, and the shine of a gloss.” The three I tried were really quite pigmented, creamy, and hydrating; their downfall was longevity was less than similar-hued shades with a less emollient consistency (not entirely unexpected). There was a slight, sweet scent to them but no discernible taste. It’s a really comfortable formula to wear, and if you don’t mind reapplying or transfer, well worth a look!

It’s a new, limited edition powder that’s supposed to provide “natural, healthy-looking color” that “highlights” with a “nondrying, non-dusty formula [that] is long-wearing and color true.” The texture was soft but not as smooth as you’d expect, as it had a fair amount of sparkle/micro-glitter in it, and the baked formula yielded a looser consistency so that powder didn’t bind together as well. Some of the sparkle translates onto the skin, and it is visible sparkle, but a lot of it seems to get lost during application (swept away, trapped in the brush, etc.), which leaves behind a noticeable, more shimmery sheen. On me, it very slightly emphasized pores. The color payoff was semi-opaque, moderately buildable. It lasted for seven hours on me before it started breakdown and look patchy.
